2021 CCUGH Virtual Annual Conference: Global Health Education Development in the New Era

On December 11, 2021, the Chinese Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CCUGH) Academic Forum "Global Health Education Development in the New Era" was successfully held through a webinar. The webinar was hosted by CCUGH and jointly organized by the School of Public Health, Sun Yat-sen University and the Center for Global Health Research, Institute of National Governance, Sun Yat-sen University. Twenty-one professors from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Peking Union Medical College, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Wuhan University were invited to participate in this webinar.

Prof. Hao Yuantao, the fourth president of CCUGH, gave a welcome speech and presided over the opening ceremony. Prof. Guo Yan from Peking University, Prof. Tang Shenglan from Duke Kunshan University, Prof. Chen Yingyao from Fudan University and Prof. Mao Zongfu from Wuhan University, the representatives of the previous presidents of CCUGH, delivered expert speeches, summarized the history of CCUGH and expressed their sincere wishes for the future development of CCUGH.

The main contents of this academic forum include:

•    Progress and Curriculum of Global Health Research Program at Peking University (Dr. Hui Yin from Peking University)
•    Current Situation, Opportunities and Challenges of Global Health Education in China (Prof. Xiang Hao from Wuhan University)
•    Experience Sharing of International Master of Public Health Training in Tsinghua University (Prof. Cheng Feng from Tsinghua University)
•    Introduction of Global Health Diversity Training Model in Fudan University (Prof. Huang Jiayan from Fudan University)
•    Reflections and Actions on China's Global Health Personnel Cultivation through Practical Experience of African Aid (Prof. Zhou Xiaonong from Shanghai Jiaotong University)
•    Global Health Curriculum and Features of Southern Medical University (Prof. Xu Dong from Southern Medical University)
•    From Nothing to Something: Sharing the Process of Global Health Curriculum Design at Sun Yat-sen University (Associate Prof. Hao Chun from Sun Yat-sen University)

The morning sessions were chaired by Prof. Xiao Shuiyuan (Central South University) and Prof. Wang Youfa (Xi'an Jiaotong University). And the afternoon sessions were chaired by Prof. Jiang Yu (Peking Union Medical College) and Associate Prof. Li Hao (Wuhan University). 

The forum was very informative and detailed, attracting more than 250 researchers and students from universities and health professional institutions in China. After the expert presentations, Prof. Fang Jing (Kunming Medical University), Prof. Gu Jing (Sun Yat-sen University), Associate Prof. Li Hao (Wuhan University) and Associate Prof. Hao Chun (Sun Yat-sen University) hosted the discussion session respectively. The webinar audiences were very enthusiastic, and the experts shared their experiences and suggestions on the field of global health education in China in a more targeted manner through responses, colliding with new thoughts and explorations. This academic forum will further enhance the influence of the School of Public Health and the Center for Global Health Research of Sun Yat-sen University among domestic universities and research institutions, and strongly promote the development of global health education.

The China Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CCUGH) was established on November 9, 2013, with founding members from 10 domestic universities, including Peking University, Peking Union Medical College, Fudan University, Wuhan University, Kunming Medical University, Duke Kunshan University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Zhejiang University, Central South University and Sun Yat-sen University. With the rapid development in recent years, a number of universities have joined CCUGH one after another, including the University of Macau, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Dalian Medical University, Guangxi Medical University, Tsinghua University, Army Medical University, Nanjing Medical University, Shandong University, Soochow University, Sichuan University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Southwest University of Finance and Economics, Xinjiang Medical University, Renmin University of China, Anhui Medical University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shanghai New York University and China Medical University universities. CCUGH members have now expanded to 29 universities nationwide.
